DAY TO DAY SUMMARY

Meeting Point: Cusco City

Day 1: Cusco in - Walking Tour:

Early flight to Cuzco, transfer to the hotel. Free time to wander around the city center while adjusting to the altitude; the 4-hour walking tour starts in the afternoon. Stroll along through the cobbled streets to experience the beauty of the capital of the Inca Empire up close. Meet the locals, marvel at the magnificent Inca and Spanish architecture visiting the impressive sights of “La Catedral” and the Golden Temple “Qorikancha”, and learn the insights with the help of your guide on the way to the Artisans’ Quarters of San Blas to visit its church and its particularly impressive carved woodwork. Welcome dinner at one of the nicest restaurants of Cusco

Day 2: Sacred Valley: Awanakancha – Pisac::

After breakfast, the guide will meet you at the hotel to start the trip to the Sacred Valley of the Incas; along the way, you will visit Awanacancha (a zoo where you will appreciate the andean camelids kinds and women processing textiles following the ancestral way). Continuing with the trip to the Sacred Valley, this alluvial valley floor follows the winding course of the Urubamba River and is flanked by astonishingly steep hillsides. Here, the Incas grew a diversity of crops and built settlements that remain to this day. The second stop is at Pisac citadel, artisans from all over the Sacred Valley region gather to sell their wares in Peru’s most famous local market. If the market is not held on the day you arrive, there are several small artisan shops where you can browse, shop for handicrafts, and generally take in the small town’s quaint atmosphere. As you travel through the Sacred Valley, you will observe the customs held by the countryside’s inhabitants, like practicing ancient farming techniques, wearing traditional cultural clothing, and using their limited resources sustainably. Time for the lunch in Pisac. After it, you will visit Pisac archaeological place, the Inca site remain somewhat mysterious as to what their absolute purpose was, but it seems likely that they were part of a settlement along a vital Inca road. With the Amazon rain forest to the east of the mountains, it is generally understood that Pisac provided a connecting point of sorts between the highlands and the jungle. Finally, transfer to the hotel.

Day 3: Mountain Biking to Moray & Maras:

This adventurous mountain biking half-day trip through the Sacred Valley combines stunning landscapes with fascinating archeological sites, and finishes at the truly breathtaking salt mines near the bank of the Urubamba river. The excursion begins with a short stop at the archaeological park of Moray to learn about Incan agricultural technology and the region is many distinct microclimates that change growing conditions and allow the propagation of a huge variety of plants each with slightly different growth requirements. After a enjoying a box lunch we hit the road linking Moray and Maras, a “single track” which is excellent to practice “Cross country”, biking up and down with beautiful views of mountainous countryside on route to the spectacular salt mines of Maras village and further down to the banks of the Urubamba river where our transport will be waiting.

Day 4: Stand Up Paddle – Chinchero Textiles::

Dare to paddle on the beautiful Lake Piuray on this half day adventure. The tour starts early in the morning heading to Chincheros, where Piuray Lake is located. This beautiful lake offers spectacular sceneries, perfect flat water and plenty of birds. Our base is the home of a local family that lives on the shores of the lake, they will greet us with a smile and share with us a little of their lifestyle and culture. We start with a safety briefing and paddle technique on land. Once in the water the idea is first to get acquainted with the board, paddling techniques and making turns. The lake offers perfect conditions, no wind or waves so the board is pretty stable. Depending on your skills, we circle all the lake, paddling a distance of approximately 5 km in 2 hours; the difficulty level is basic as most of the time we paddle close to the shores. Back on the ground we put on warm clothes and relax, enjoy a lunch and a hot infusion. Finally we will visit Chinchero, this place is known for its textile work and communal organization. Here we will meet the women responsible for the textile activities, those dedicated to preserve and use ancient Inca ́s weaving and knitting techniques of old pre-Columbian styles and learn more about their weaving techniques as well as the procedures to obtain natural colors. At the end of the visit, transfer to the hotel.

Day 5: White River Rafting – Ollantaytambo Fortress::

At 8:30 a.m., the guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive through the mountains towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas until reaching our private river put-in located in Pachar. Here you will receive your rafting equipment and a safety briefing. (Toilet facilities are available). After a brief period practicing on the flat parts of the river, we will start our journey on easy waters, while we admire the spectacular Mountain View and the archaeological remains. We will continue towards Ollantaytambo and its amazing Inca terraces, at the time we will experience class 2-3 rapids, to end with “El Resbaladero” (The Slide), a strong class 3 rapid that includes waves and small whirlpools. We will then have lunch in a traditional restaurant located on the riverside and owned by the local community. This is a great chance to enjoy the Andean cuisine while supporting community projects. We will then proceed to Ollantaytambo, one of the last Inca cities remaining on foot. Passengers will enjoy a guided visit to the ruins that crown the town. Transfer to the hotel located in Ollantaytambo.

Day 6: Short Inca Trail: Ollantaytambo – Km 104 – Machupicchu::

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Ollantaytambo train station. You will board the train to KM 104. At this point and after we check in at the ranges control, we will start trekking for approximately 3 hours, up to the well-preserved remains of Wiñay Wayna (9512 ft). On the way, we will see beautiful waterfalls. After a deluxe lunch, we will have the rest of the day free to explore the ruins with its houses, terraces, towers and local museum, as well as visiting the Inti Punku, which is very well known as the sun gate. From the sun gate, we get our first sight of Machu Picchu. We finally cross the ridge that leads to our destination, and the full sight of the greatest archaeological discovery of modern times is reveled. We catch the bus down to Aguas Calientes to rest.

Day 7: Machupicchu – Cusco::

Today, you have a full-day to explore Machu Picchu. This citadel remained for centuries undiscovered by the Spaniards, only to be found in 1911 by Hiram Bingham. The uniqueness of its location and the genius that went into its construction make this Inca archaeological site truly one of the great wonders of the world. You will have a guided tour for about 3 hours, after free time to explore or take some pictures. In the afternoon, you will take the bus to down to Aguas Calientes. We then return to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Cusco. Upon arrival at the Cusco train station, your driver who will take you to your hotel in the heart of the city.

Day 8: Cusco Free Day::

Free day in Cusco. Activities on your own.

Day 9: Cusco Out::

Transfer from the hotel to Cusco ́s airport. End of our services.
